Everyone’s looking for a good deal these days so I thought I’d make a list of some of the cheapest netbooks around that are still worth owning. There are some really cheap ones out there that are still decent (like this $169 Asus) but for this list I’m going to stick with at least 160GB hard drives, 10.1″ displays and Windows XP or newer OS.
1. Asus Eee PC 1005HA $239.99 (10.1″, 160GB hard drive, Windows XP, 4hr battery):
I’m not sure why this one is so cheap, but if you click the link above and scroll down the page there is a merchant selling this one new for $239.99. Now that’s a deal.
2. Sylvania GNET $263.88 (10.1″, 160GB hard drive, Windows XP, 6 cell battery):
You’ve probably never heard of this brand before but it has very solid hardware and good customer ratings.
3. MSI U100 blue $269.95 (10.1″, 160GB hd, 3 cell battery):
You’ve probably read our review of the MSI U100 and know that it’s one of the top netbooks both in build quality and user satisfaction. This one is cheaper because it features a 3 cell battery, which can easily be upgraded.
4. Acer Aspire One red $275.99 (10.1″, 160GB hd, Windows XP):
Read our full review here, this is a very solid netbook at a great price.
5. MSI Wind U100 pink $279.04 (10.1″, 160GB hd, 2.5hr battery):
This is the second MSI U100 on the list, but it costs slightly more because it’s pink (I guess). Same specs as the first one and a great bargain at this price, though you may want to upgrade the battery.
