Fudzilla has found out that the successor to the Pine-trail 2010 netbook based Atom platform is codenamed Cedar Trail and this chip is set to launch at some point in 2011. “Pine Trail” and then “Cedar Trail”, what’s next “Oak” or maybe “Spruce Trail”.
Naming convention aside it’s speculated that these chipsets will feature sub 45nm technology, either 32 or 22, and this will allow them to continue to become cheaper and more energy efficient. So expect netbooks to continue to become smaller, faster and cheaper.
Pine Trail based Atom N450 and N470, as well as D410 and D510, will cater to Intel partners throughout 2010 and next year Cedar Trail will take the crown and possibly bring a serious performance increase as well. We look forward to seeing more details come to light about these new chips.
