You’ve asked for it and here it is: a list of the cheapest netbooks available right now:
1. $73.00
You want cheap, you got it. This is the cheapest netbook by far we’ve ever seen, and somehow they’ve managed to squeeze wifi in there! It’s from Sungworld and has no name, but can be found on Shanzhaiben.com. Here are the specs:
- processor: 300MHz VIA VT8500 processor
- display: 7 inches with a resolution of 800 x 480
- memory: 128 MB RAM
- Windows CE OS
- integrated wifi
- 1GB of storage
Not too shabby for the price of an old Nokia cell-phone.
2. $98.00
The eBook LY-EB01 is one of the cheapest netbooks we’ve ever seen, and you definitely get what you pay for. Here are the specs:
- processor: ARM 266 MHz AK7802Q216
- display: 7 inches with a resolution of 800 x 480
- memory: 128 MB RAM
- Windows CE OS
- integrated wifi
- maybe 3 hours max battery
This netbook is only available in China now, but you can find a few on ebay. However I wouldn’t recommend this for any more than checking email and web browsing.
3. $99.00
The JPRO JL7100 is the next cheap netbook on our list. It is a dollar more than the Lanyu ebook and it functions about a dollar better. Their motto is “the future of the laptop has arrived”, I hope they’re wrong. Here are the tech specs:
- processor: Samsung 400MHz, ARM 9 Core 2440
- display: 7 inches with a resolution of 800 x 480
- memory: 64 MB RAM
- Windows CE OS
- no wifi
- 4 hours max battery
4. $130
The Impulse NPX-9000 is similiar to the other ultra cheap netbooks, here are the specs:
- processor: Samsung 400MHz
- display: 7 inches with a resolution of 800 x 480
- memory: 64 MB RAM
- Custom Linux OS
- no wifi
5. $180
The Asus Eee PC 900 is actually a half-decent netbook, and one of the first to come out. This is a refurb model I found from buy.com that has the following specs:
- processor: Intel Celeron M 900 MHz
- display: 8.9-inch LCD display (1024 x 600 resolution)
- memory: 512 MB RAM
- Asus customized Linux OS
- 802.11b/g Wireless LAN
- 4 GB Solid State (SSD) Hard Drive
Once you get around $200 or more you can start to find other refurbished name brand netbooks that are fairly decent for the price. But if you’re going to spend $200 for a really slow netbook might as well spend another $50 or so and get a decent one. Take a look at some of these deals.
