Pixel Qi displays are set to go into production in netbooks and tv’s in December. If you’re not familiar withPixel Qi displays they are epaper displays (the same kind used in the kinde ebook) but are capable of producing fully saturated color images with very great quality. Since they are epaper they require very little power, around 1/10 of normal power usage for displays. This means that they can be run off of solar cells, hand cranks, etc.
And since they are epaper that also means they can be viewed in full sunlight.

Try doing this with your normal netbook.
Epaper technology is very different than normal lcd displays in that power is only used to change colors, and if the screen doesn’t change images then no power is used. This is why epaper screens consume a very small amount of power compared to normal screens. Pixel Qi has taken this technology to the point that it can be used in normal displays and tv’s, and we’re very eager to see how they measure up once they’re released in December.
Oh and by the way happy Thanksgiving!
