The latest 10.1 beta 3 build has been released for Flash player, and it includes Intel GMA 500 support (finally). The GMA500 graphics chip wasn’t used in as many netbooks as the GMA950 was, but still includes some popular models such as:
- Asus T91MT
- Eee PC 1101HA
- Sony Vaio P
- Dell Inspiron Mini 10
- MSI Wind U115
- Acer Aspire One AO751
I broke out my Aspire One AO751 to try it out and it is definitely a major improvement.
Here are the results I saw:
- 480p flash videos went from around10fps to around 30fps
- 720p flash went from 2fps to around 10fps
- 1080p- don’t even think about it
These are rough estimates of course but you can definitely see a vast improvement. 480p full-screen flash videos play flawlessly while 720p are still a little rough, but that’s of course due to the 1.3GHz processor.
This update also adds support for the Crystal HD accelerator card, so if you have one of these you should be watching full 1080p with no problem.
Also note that I can’t seem to get it to work in Internet explorer (who uses that anyway), but it works fine in Firefox and Chrome. If you want to try it out first run the uninstall utility (here) and then you can install Flash 10.1 (here). Let me know what results you see.
