HP Slate handled; chunky, slow, unimpressive

The HP Slate has found its way into the hands of Conecti.ca and they’ve done a small mini-review. The verdict is that it’s basically a hacked up netbook running on Windows 7 with a different theme overlay. Basically this isn’t an iPad killer, but if your expectation is just to have a netbook with a touchscreen and no keyboard, then this is it.

hpThe big surprise is how thick this thing looks, and that’s due to all of the press shots only being of the front of the tablet.

hp2Supposedly the touchscreen interface is kind of slow, unresponsive at times, and not at all quick and smooth like you might hope. It’s basically an HP mini crammed into a tablet, which isn’t at all a bad thing but since the good old iPad has come out the bar has been raised a little for tablet pc’s. It can do a few things the iPad can’t like play flash video, and of course it’s not officially out yet either so the official version might be a little more snappy.
