You may remember our post last week where the Nvidia Ion 2 was benchmarked for the first time and, disappointingly, it was about the same speed as the first version, and even a little slower at times. Well apparently there are 2 versions of the new Ion, one made for 10″ and smaller netbooks with an 8 core processor, and a 16 core version for 11″ and larger netbooks.
Well luckily there was a new Asus Eee PC 1201PN sitting out at CeBIT and notebook italia managed to run a benchmark test on it. The Asus Eee PC 1201N with first gen Ion scored a 1583 on 3DMark06, while the new one with 16 core Ion 2 scored a 2013 which is around a 27% improvement.
This isn’t a large jump in performance but it is definitely noticeable, and at least it’s not slower like the 8 core version. Here is the test:
