New Acer Aspire One AO721 netbook hits FCC site

A new netbook has popped up for testing at the good old FCC site yesterday, the Acer Aspire One AO721. It has several interesting new features including a 3G modem and what appears to be an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. It also has a nice textured surface on the top to keep away the fingerprints.

How to change desktop background in Windows 7 starter

Windows 7 starter is the version that ships with most new netbooks nowadays. It is a stripped down version of Windows 7 Home, and among other things doesn’t let you change the desktop wallpaper. Well there’s finally a program that will let you do just that. It’s called StarterBackgroundChanger and is a free program.

Asus Eee PC 1001P- good netbook at a great price

The Asus Eee PC 1001P is now selling for only $290, and that includes an 11 hour battery. The 1001P features the new N450 processor with Intel GMA 3150 graphics and matte finishes all around so you won’t have to worry about fingerprints. It has the same keyboard as the 1005HA which is a joy to type on, and of course comes with Windows 7 and the usual specs.

JooJoo to feature Nvidia Ion and Atom N270 processor

The JooJoo tablet is going to be coming to market here in a few weeks, and before this could happen it had to be approved by the FCC. Luckily they took alot of good pictures of their teardown and put them on their website for us to see. Apparently the JooJoo is going to feature an Nvidia Ion GPU (first generation) along with an N270 processor. This means it should be able to handle most HD video, but that battery life might not be all that great (try 2-4 hours).

AMD to release their own “Atom” chip in 2011

AMD is a little late to the game, but it looks like next year they’re going to have a new chip in their “Fusion” lineup that will compete with Intel’s Atom chip. They have a few low power chips in netbooks such as the MV-40, but battery life on these is definitely sub-par. This will change in 2011 with their new chip, whatever it may be called.

OCZ Onyx series SSD for under $100

OCZ has unveiled their new Onyx series SSD drives, and they are well below the usual price for SSD’s. Their 32GB model will be “under $100″ with no specific price listed yet. So if you’ve been wanting to upgrade the hd on your netbook for durability and faster boot times, now might be the time.

ASUS Eee PC 1005PR comes with Broadcom HD card and screen

The ASUS Eee PC 1005PR has recently popped up on the product pages over at Asus, and it’s a very nice upgrade to the now best-selling 1005PE. It keeps all of the specs the same except for an HD 1366 x 768 10.1″ display and a Broadcom crystal HD accelerator card for HD video playback. There’s no word yet on pricing or availability but look for it to come in under $400.
